Your Personalised Gym Programme

As part of your tailored training programme, you will be given workouts that are specifically designed to meet your abilities, needs, and goals, along with a meal plan that will complement your exercise regime with the right nutritional balance.

We will arrange a time for you to speak with one of our personal trainers, who will carry out a complimentary Initial Consultation that can be accomplished online, over the phone or in person, to assess your basic training goals, needs and any other things we should know.

The next step is to come in for your more thorough comprehensive consultation where we will ask you to carry out some basic movements and exercises to assess your fitness levels and whether you have any physical restrictions or injuries, as well as discuss your lifestyle, diet, set your goals and more. If you are there in person for your initial consultation, you may be able to do your Comprehensive Consultation immediately after.

Comprehensive Personal Training Consultation

The Comprehensive Consultation will help your trainer understand where you currently are, where you want to get to and how best to help you get there, so that we can build your Personal Training Plan. This comprehensive consultation will cover the following:

Whether you are an experienced athlete or new to exercise, attention to improving posture, mobility, technique during exercise and core strength are included in all personal training programmes. You may be able to identify your training objective from the following:

What Your Personal Training Programme Will Consist of:

You need three main components in your core training program regardless of whether you wish to lose weight, get healthy, or simply improve your general physical fitness:

  1. Weight training: If you’re just starting out, you don’t have to lift heavy weights or spend a lot of time on weight training. But you must lift some – even light resistance training is good. Strengthening your muscles will make daily tasks easier, and increasing your muscle mass will help you increase your metabolic rate and therefore burn more calories.
  1. Cardio training: A cardio workout is any activity that gets your heart rate up, such as walking, jogging, cycling, and high-intensity interval training. Warming up with light cardio (e.g. 5 to 10 minutes) is always a good idea regardless of your exercise.
  1. Flexibility training: Exercises require you to be flexible enough to perform the full range of motion. When you stretch after exercising, your flexibility improves, and your body recovers faster. People sometimes set aside a day for flexibility, but stretching should be incorporated into each workout without needing a separate workout.

Some people believe it is best to do only cardio or strength training on certain days. However, if you even just moderately fit, you can do these exercises together as part of a single session. Our bespoke personal training programmes will consist of varying amounts of the 3 types of training above, tailored specifically for you, your abilities and your goals.

 

Motivational Support

Whether you choose our one-to-one personal training where you can choose between 4, 8 or 12 sessions per month or our semi-private personal training in a very small group, where you will attend the gym for a PT session 3 days per week, the care, attention to detail and quality of coaching you receive will be the same.

Maintaining motivation is perhaps the biggest challenge people face when working toward their fitness goals. The sun can make going out with your friends for that “just one drink” more tempting than going to the gym.

However, you are statistically far more likely to show up if someone you have paid to help you, and who you have built up a positive relationship with, is expecting you to.

It is human nature to try harder when people know that someone is watching them, so a personal trainer will help you stay motivated during your sessions as well. Training with friends can be better for motivation than training alone, but a personal trainer will not allow you to miss a rep when they are watching whereas your friend may be more forgiving!

Even if you lack confidence or feel low, your trainer will always be there to help you. You will receive constant feedback and unconditional support from your trainer because your success is the most important thing.

I first met Chris in January 2020. I was 12 weeks pregnant with my first child. As a trained dancer, and teacher I was hoping to maintain my levels of fitness whilst minimising the risks of my pregnancy. My early dance training concentrated on training my limbs, while often neglecting my ‘centre’ or ‘core’. It wasn’t until a back injury in 2012 due to weak lower back muscles that my approach to training changed. When I first found out about my pregnancy, I worried about my back and how to keep it strong.Chris helped me through my pregnancy teaching me safe ways of keeping my core strong, helping with my postural alignment as well as addressing some muscular imbalances that I wasn’t aware I had. Most importantly, Chris gave me the confidence to continue training through pregnancy. I knew I was in safe hands. Chris is phenomenally knowledgeable in how our bodies work.May 2022, I am currently pregnant with my second child and still continuing to train with Chris at Nxtep. Luca has also joined the team and is a fantastic addition. They are a great team, and I am very lucky to be trained by them both. I would highly recommend anyone thinking about pre or post natal pregnancy training to consider Nxtep.

Before starting at Nxtep I would go through a cycle of starting to get fit, injuring my back, then avoiding exercise for fear of making it worse. The same happened when I started here, with my over eagerness to improve leading to the same old injury. Chris and Luca kept me motivated and coached me through the recovery process, allowing me to strengthen the areas susceptible to injury and enabling me to carry on where I’d previously have given up. Now I’m lifting ~100kg more than when I first started and the past few years of persistent back injury seem a distant memory. The guys have helped me with my nutrition, my outlook and overcoming what I previously thought I couldn’t. I can’t thank them both enough!

I’ve been working with Chris and the team at Nxtep, and the initially just wanted to get stronger and fitter somewhere local when the gym near work was no longer an option due to the pandemic. I know feel really confident handling weights and my diet. I recently saw myself in a film from before I started at Nxtep and other people couldn’t recognise me from me who didn’t know me well so, it definitely works! Highly recommended.

Training at Nxtep during Covid was tricky but Chris and Luca made it work! Started with training outdoors in the carpark before we were allowed to move indoors, it was always fun and I feel I made real progress.It never felt just like a business and always felt more caring, I was also doing it as part of my DofE to which Luca/Chris were very helpful with.I've had to stop due to other focuses in life but I've got some real fond memories of the time and am hoping to go back later if I can!

Wanted to improve all round fitness especially strength and conditioning so contacted & met with Chris.....was very impressed with his approach and was motivated to getting started & looking forward to the challengeChris was fundamental to me in making the nutrition and exercise changes required to achieve goals.... inspiring, motivational, encouraging & supportive he is great to work with......regular tracking & updates help me to stay focused..... Chris is easy to get along with and the sessions are challenging but enjoyable.....
